Are you one of the many people in Johannesburg who have recently received a bill from the City of Johannesburg (“COJ”) which depicts a massive amount allegedly due to the COJ for water and lights during the national lockdown?

The COJ has issued a notice in which the COJ has informed all its customers that there has been an error regarding their calculations during the national lockdown and that they are working to resolve the issue. Attached hereto is the said notice.
Whilst there may have been an error with the billing and you dispute the amount claimed, we suggest (much like the suggestion of the COJ in the attached notice) that you pay your usual monthly amount for your consumption of water and lights for the month of May 2020.
If the issue is not resolved by the end of June 2020 however, we suggest that you contact our offices for assistance, as in our opinion and experience, it is best to nip this in the bud now before the issue gets completely out of hand (as some of our clients have unfortunately experienced previously).
